Many PAP* users are not aware that they can control their machine's humidification settings. If you experience nasal congestion, dry mouth, or irritated nasal passages, adding moisture and heat to the pressurized air may help alleviate these side effects. Other over-the-counter remedies, such as saline sprays or rinses, may also help ease nasal congestion.
Speak with your doctor if your nasal congestion is chronic. It may be due to allergies or another issue that can be treated in consultation with your physician.
One potential cause of PAP-related dry mouth is air leak through the mouth. Some nasal or nasal pillow mask users who breathe through their mouth find that wearing a CPAP chin strap or mouth tape helps alleviate dry mouth symptoms. If dry mouth persists, switching to a full-face mask may resolve the issue.
Other factors, including lifestyle considerations or other medical conditions, may contribute to dry mouth. Speak with your doctor if you have concerns about persistent dry mouth.
