Mask leak is one of the most common challenges for CPAP users. To assure the best fit and adjustment, sit on your bed and place the mask on your head/face with the straps loose. With the machine turned on and the air blowing, lie down with your head on the pillow in your normal sleeping position.
Slowly tighten your mask straps until you get a good seal, being careful not to over-tighten.
The final step is to “seat” your mask. After the straps are adjusted, pull the mask out and away from your face (about 2 inches) and gently place it back on your face.
Mask fit varies with sleeping positions, so if you fit your mask for side or stomach sleeping, you will need to readjust if you roll to your back. This is why many people train themselves to sleep solely in certain positions. Side and stomach sleeping uses the same basic mask fit, while back sleeping has a different mask fit.
